Squirrels know best
Collecting their horde
Acorns a plenty
Long winter to store

Snow rapidly falling
Two inches a minute
Blankets the outdoors
All noises diminish. ↓ ↓

The quiet so great
No voices to hear
No vehicles, dogs barking
Calms heart, soul & ear

Quiet like this
Is rare, yes indeed
The world so crazy
In thought word & deed

Time to reflect
On this crazy year
Throughout the land
Full of anxiety & fears

Bickering, fighting
Debating, galore
Confusion, sickness
The money allure

Health care and wars
Unemployment too
Foreclosures, the homeless
From bankers mad brews

Insurance, doctors
Pharmacies, pills
Nursing homes, patients
End of life bills

Environment disintegrates
Food contaminated too
Water is filthy
Nature’s gravely askew

Computer, technology
Isolation so easy
Separateness, aloneness
Makes tolerance so queasy

Life seemed so simple
In history gone past
Survival caused people
To group and hold fast ↓ ↓

Driven by needs
Shelter, clothes, hunger
Little time to think
Reflect, read or ponder

Families now scattered
By geography & connection
Elders alone
Generations have frictions

Families asunder
Commitment no more
Easy to run
When life is a chore

What is the reason
For all the disorder
Is News making it up
Or is it really a bother

Would we ever know
About wars distant lands
All the other crap
Without media wave bands

Perhaps it is perspective
The place where we focus
Attention on negative
Makes it the true locus

What happened to love
To forgiveness, be kind
Gentle, compassionate
Acceptance, gone blind

Select ‘few’ holding much
‘Poor/middle’ meager scraps
Extremes are far vaster
Wealth held tightly clasped

Oh give us some hope
Sprinkle elf dust galore
Enliven our lives
With brightness once more

Renew the connections
We all have as humans
Lift up each other
Till all touch the heavens

Enough gloom and doom
Friends, family so dear
What happened to joy
And holiday cheer

To solve world problems
Personal, national too
By finding the good
In all that we do

Deaf ears to the things
That separate and tear
Focus bravely instead
On commonality clear

Pollyanna you say
You may well be right
But earthly survival
Depends on our sight

Clear vision and thoughts
Feeling, communication
Lets transform our lives
The community and nation

With this knock on the head
Vertigo, nausea at times
Memory lapses & pain
Age may feel the decline

Still seeing the lesson
In tragedy and chaos
Growing within it
With love as the payoff

Perhaps next year
The world will resolve
Understanding earths creatures
Need each other to evolve

In 2010
The best year thus far
All dreams are restored
Magic flows where you are
